Moral Capitalism Spotlight - "My (Great-) Uncle Jack Goes to Leinster House"
In his
essay, Dr. Murphy explores the concept of the Irish "clan" and its importance in
Irish politics and history. He focuses on the Clann na Talmhan, a grassroots
political movement formed by smallholder farmers in post-World War II Ireland.
Dr. Murphy also discusses the historical context of Irish agriculture, including
the Great Famine and the impact of colonization. He highlights the resistance
of farmers to British rule and the influence of papal encyclicals on economic
and social justice. Finally, Dr. Murphy shares a personal story of his great-uncle's
involvement in the Irish Land League and the struggle for agrarian rights.
